How much does grass cutting cost in Milton and Mississauga?
Weekly grass cutting with us starts from $150 a month plus HST for a residential lawn, May to October, with trimming, edging and clippings handled on every visit. Corner lots, large backyards, slopes and tight gates raise the price, and a first cut on an overgrown lawn is quoted separately.
A townhouse strip in Churchill Meadows and a deep corner lot in Streetsville are not the same job, so we quote from your address and a photo rather than a price list. New customers get $25 off their first service. Is weekly or bi-weekly lawn mowing better?
Weekly mowing is better for most lawns in Milton and Mississauga, especially in May and June when grass grows fastest. Landscape Ontario advises cutting no more than a third of the blade at a time, and at a 6 to 8 cm height that is hard to do on a two-week gap in spring.
Here is the arithmetic. Mow at 7.5 cm (3 in) and the one-third rule says cut again before the grass passes about 11 cm. In the spring flush that height comes quickly, so a two-week gap usually means taking off too much at once: the lawn gets scalped, or heavy clumps sit on top and yellow the grass underneath.
Our plan is built on weekly cuts for that reason. In July and August, growth slows in the heat and a weekly visit is more about trimming, edging and holding the height steady than removing a lot of grass. If you want a different schedule, mention it when you ask for a quote.
| In spring | Weekly | Bi-weekly |
|---|---|---|
| Grass removed per cut | A third or less | Often more than a third |
| Clippings | Short, break down quickly | Long, clump and smother |
| Look between cuts | Even all week | Shaggy by the second week |
| Stress on the lawn | Low | Higher after each cut |
What height should grass be cut in Ontario?
Cut most Ontario lawns at 6 to 8 cm (2.5 to 3 in). Landscape Ontario recommends mowing high in that range, never removing more than a third of the blade, and keeping mower blades sharp. We set the deck in that range and run near the top of it in July and August heat.
Most lawns in Milton and Mississauga are cool-season grasses, like Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass and fescues; our guide to the best grass seed for Ontario lawns covers the mixes. Taller grass shades the soil, holds moisture through dry spells and leaves weeds less room. Scalping a lawn down to 4 cm to "save a week" backfires: it browns faster in heat and takes longer to recover.
What happens to the grass clippings?
On a normal week we leave clippings on the lawn as fine mulch, which Halton Region says can supply up to 25% of a lawn's yearly fertilizer needs. Peel does not take clippings at the curb or its recycling centres, and Halton accepts them only in Burlington, October to May. Clumps and stray clippings get cleaned up.
This is grasscycling, and it works best with weekly cuts: short clippings drop between the blades and break down quickly. Long clippings from an overdue cut sit on top and smother the grass. After a wet week or a first cut we break up or rake out clumps, and we blow every clipping off the driveway, walkway and road before we leave. If you fertilize, grasscycling lets you use less; see how often to fertilize your lawn in Ontario.
What does a first cut on an overgrown lawn cost?
A first cut on an overgrown lawn costs extra because it takes much longer, so we quote it separately from a photo before the weekly plan starts. Long grass has to come down in stages, with the deck raised for the first pass, so the lawn is not scalped and the clippings do not smother it.
There is a by-law reason not to let it go, too. The Town of Milton says grass and weeds must be kept under 8 inches (20.32 cm) on the front lawn, back lawn and boulevard, and the City of Mississauga By-law 0050-2026 sets a 20 cm limit for turfgrass, including the boulevard. A lawn left alone through a wet June gets there faster than most people expect, especially at a rental or a home that sits empty for the summer.
How does the mowing season work: dates, rain days and backyards?
The mowing season runs May to October, with weekly visits. When heavy rain soaks the lawn, we move the cut to the next workable day instead of rutting wet turf. For backyards, leave the gate unlatched, keep pets inside, and clear toys and hoses off the grass before cut day.
The mowing plan fits with the rest of the year. A spring cleanup clears winter debris before the first cut, core aeration and overseeding loosens compacted soil, and a fall cleanup handles the leaves and last cut before snow. Milton homeowners can see the whole year in our Milton lawn care seasonal guide.
