What does lawn care in Milton include?

Our Milton lawn care starts with weekly mowing from May to October, from $150 a month for a residential lot, with cutting, trimming, edging and clippings handled on every visit. Aeration can be bundled into the season. Cleanups, overseeding, sod, hedges and garden beds are quoted per property.

Weekly matters here. Milton lawns surge in May and June, and a lawn left ten days has to be cut hard to catch up, which stresses it and lets weeds in. On a weekly lawn mowing route we take about a third of the blade at a time.

On a healthy lawn the best place for clippings is back on the grass: Halton Region says they can supply up to 25% of a lawn's yearly fertilizer needs. Water deeply once or twice a week under Halton's odd/even rule (odd house numbers on odd calendar days); new sod can be watered until it establishes.

Why do so many Milton lawns struggle on clay?

Most of Milton sits on clay loam till that drains slowly, and new subdivisions add compaction from months of construction traffic. Water sits on the surface, roots stay shallow, and builder sod thins out after a season or two. Core aeration with overseeding in late summer or fall is the fix that lasts.

The federal soil survey of Halton County describes the land between the old Lake Iroquois shoreline and the Niagara Escarpment as clay loam till, inadequately drained through the middle of the county. Its sample profile of Chinguacousy soil, one of the county's most widespread, was taken about 3 km east of Milton.

A new build makes it worse: topsoil stripped, clay driven over for months, thin sod laid on top. The signs are puddles that sit a day after rain, grass that browns first in July, and soil too hard for a screwdriver. Fall aeration and overseeding, repeated for two or three seasons, breaks that crust up.

Lawn care by Milton neighbourhood

Milton lots change from one end of town to the other. Old Milton and Timberlea have mature trees, the east-side subdivisions have settled lawns on clay, and the Boyne neighbourhoods south of Louis St. Laurent Avenue are still young lawns, so each property gets a plan for its part of town.

The Boyne Survey alone, the land between Louis St. Laurent Avenue, James Snow Parkway, Britannia Road and Tremaine Road, covers about 930 hectares and was planned by the Town to house 50,000 residents. Ford, Cobban, Walker and Bowes are all inside it, which is why so many Milton lawns are still builder sod.

When should you book yard cleanup in Milton?

Book spring yard cleanup for April, once you can walk on the lawn without sinking, and fall cleanup for late October into November, after most leaves are down. Halton Region collects yard waste in Milton every other week, on garbage day, from the first week of April to the second week of December.

Halton's rules shape how a cleanup is finished. Yard waste goes out in paper yard waste bags or open, labelled rigid containers (up to 125 litres and 23 kg), at the curb by 7 a.m. Brush is tied in bundles no larger than 2 m by 1 m, branches under 7.5 cm (3 in). Plastic bags, sod, soil and grass clippings are refused.

Our fall cleanup clears leaves from the lawn and beds and finishes with a short final cut so the grass does not mat under snow, with debris bagged to Halton's standard. Bigger loads can go to the Halton Waste Management Site at 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton.

Landscaping in Milton: beds, sod and interlock

Most Milton landscaping work finishes what the builder started: real garden beds instead of a strip of stone, new sod where the lawn failed, and interlock walkways and patios that shed water away from the house. Every project is quoted after we see the yard, and the quote is free.

Clay changes how a yard should be built. Beds are raised or amended so roots are not sitting in water, and interlock patios and walkways sit on a compacted gravel base sloped away from the foundation. Our landscape design and planting page shows how a project runs.

Snow removal in Milton: what the Town does and what we do

The Town of Milton plows roads, plus the sidewalks along schools, transit routes and busy walking routes. Your driveway, the windrow the plow leaves at its end, and the public sidewalk in front of your house are yours to clear. Our seasonal contracts cover the driveway, walkway and front steps.

Milton aims to finish every street within 24 hours after snow stops. Residents must clear their sidewalk within 24 hours of a storm, and By-law 106-2019 says that snow cannot go onto the road. The Town's windrow program only serves seniors and residents with disabilities, after 10 cm or more.

Our Milton snow removal contracts run November 1 to April 30, paid in six monthly instalments. The crew comes out at 5 cm, works 24/7 through a storm with a plow truck and a shovel crew, salt is included, and snow is piled on your property. Pricing depends on driveway size and layout, with a free quote, usually the same day.

Do you handle commercial properties in Milton?

Yes. We maintain commercial lots, plazas, offices and townhouse complexes in Milton, with commercial lawn care from $300 a month for a small lot. In winter we plow, shovel and salt plazas, condo and townhouse sites and places of worship, priced per site after a free site visit.

Property managers get a written scope that lists lots, walkways and salting, with visit reports on request. See commercial lawn care and commercial snow removal for details, and if your sites reach past town, our Oakville lawn care runs from the same base.

Milton: common questions

How much does lawn care cost in Milton?

Weekly mowing for a Milton home starts at $150 a month from May to October, with trimming, edging and clippings handled on every visit. Cleanups, overseeding, sod, beds and interlock are quoted per property. Commercial lawn care starts at $300 a month, and new customers get $25 off their first service.

Is Lawn By Moe actually based in Milton?

Yes. Lawn By Moe Landscaping Inc. is an Ontario company based in Milton, in Halton Region. From here we also serve Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Halton Hills, Brampton, Etobicoke, Caledon and west Toronto. Quotes come by WhatsApp or phone at 437-433-1994, usually the same day.

Does Halton Region pick up grass clippings in Milton?

No. Halton's curbside yard waste refuses grass clippings, sod and soil in Milton; Burlington is the only Halton municipality where clippings are accepted, and only from October to May. The easy answer is to leave clippings on the lawn after a regular weekly cut, where they feed the grass.

Do I have to clear the sidewalk in front of my house in Milton?

Yes. The Town of Milton expects residents to clear the public sidewalk in front of their home within 24 hours after a snow or ice storm. The Town only plows sidewalks near schools, transit routes and major walking routes, and By-law 106-2019 says cleared snow cannot be pushed onto the road.

When is the best time to aerate a lawn in Milton?

Late August through September is the best window for core aeration in Milton, followed straight away by overseeding. The clay is soft enough for deep cores, and seed has warm soil and time to root before frost. Spring aeration also works on builder lawns once the ground is firm.
