Snow Removal in BurlingtonWeekly lawn maintenance in Burlington runs May to October, from $150 a month for a home: each visit is a cut, a trim, a clean edge and clippings dealt with, and aeration can be bundled in. Yard cleanups, overseeding, hedges, garden beds and interlock are quoted per property.
Burlington has a clipping rule nobody else in Halton gets: grass clippings are accepted in Halton yard waste here from October to May. Wet spring and fall clippings can go to the curb in paper bags, while summer clippings stay on the lawn where they feed it. Clippings are handled on every weekly lawn mowing visit either way.
Burlington sits between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment, which enters Halton at the city's southwest corner. Lots near the lake sit on the old Lake Iroquois plain, while north Burlington rises onto clay loam till. Lawns near the water warm up sooner; lawns further north hold water and compact more.
The federal soil survey of Halton County splits the county into climate bands: the narrow lakeshore strip averages about 155 frost-free days, against about 145 in the farm belt behind it. That head start shows up each spring, when lawns near the lake need their first cut before those up by Dundas Street.
| Area | Typical lot | What it needs most |
|---|---|---|
| Aldershot, Tyandaga | Older lots, some sloped or ravine-side | Leaf cleanup, overseeding, careful edging |
| Downtown, Roseland | Mature lots under large trees | Leaf cleanup, shade overseeding, hedges |
| Brant Hills, Headon Forest | Established detached lots | Aeration, weekly cuts, bed edging |
| Millcroft, Tansley, Orchard, Alton Village | Newer lots on clay, younger trees | Aeration, overseeding, tight trimming |
The City of Burlington runs loose leaf collection each fall in three zones, each with its own dates. Rake leaves to the curb, shoulder or boulevard no more than two days before your zone's date; anything left after the crews pass goes in paper bags for Halton's yard waste pickup.
Piles must be free of branches, out of ditches, off catch basins and clear of sidewalks and bike lanes. Since 2025, Burlington's Lot Maintenance By-law 049-2022 allows fines for leaves that block sidewalks or bike lanes or create a flooding hazard. Snow or freezing rain can delay or cancel collection.
Our fall cleanup works backwards from your zone date: beds and lawn cleared, sticks pulled out, and a clean pile placed inside the two-day window. Spring yard cleanup runs in April once the lawn is firm, and Halton picks up bagged yard waste every other week on garbage day from early April.
Inside Burlington's urban area, yes, for trees 20 cm (8 in) or wider measured 1.37 m above the ground. The Private Tree By-law requires a permit to injure or remove them, and heritage and at-risk species carry extra protection. A patio or bed dug through a protected tree's roots can count as injury.
The City is working toward 35% tree canopy cover by 2041, and the by-law is part of how it gets there. So landscape design and planting and interlock patios and walkways here start with a quick tree check: where the trunks are, how far the roots run, and whether the plan needs a permit before anyone digs.
Burlington plows local residential roads once 7.5 cm has fallen and the main roads are done, and clears sidewalks from 5 cm, aiming for 48 hours after the snow ends. Your driveway and the windrow at its end stay with you, unless you register for the City's paid windrow program.
For 2026 to 2027 Council set that program at $150 plus HST, half price for eligible seniors, residents with disabilities and low-income residents. It runs December 1 to March 31, only for snowfalls over 7.5 cm, with windrows cleared within 36 hours after the snow ends. Our residential snow removal contracts kick in at 5 cm and handle the driveway, walkway and steps with salt included, from November 1 to April 30.
We handle commercial lawn maintenance in Burlington for plazas, offices, small commercial lots, townhouse complexes and condo sites, starting at $300 a month for a small commercial lot. That covers weekly cutting, trimming and edging, with fall leaf cleanup, hedges and bed work added to the written scope.
The City tells condo residents that leaf clearing is set by their property manager or condo board, so fall cleanup belongs in the contract. In winter the same sites can move to commercial snow removal, priced per site after a free visit. See commercial lawn care for how we scope a property.
Yes, but only from October to May. Burlington is the one Halton municipality where grass clippings can go out with yard waste, in paper bags or labelled rigid containers, during those months. From June to September they are refused, so leave them on the lawn, where they return nutrients to the soil.
Each fall, in three zones with their own dates, shown on the City's leaf collection tracker. Put leaves out no more than two days before your zone's date; anything missed goes in paper bags for Halton's yard waste pickup, which ends in December.
Inside the urban area, you need a permit to remove or injure a private tree 20 cm (8 in) or more in diameter, measured 1.37 m from the ground. Smaller trees are exempt. Rural Burlington, outside the urban boundary, is not covered by the Private Tree By-law, though public trees are protected citywide.
Residential grass cutting in Burlington is from $150 a month for a weekly visit between May and October, trim and edge included. Commercial lawn maintenance starts at $300 a month for a small lot. First-time customers save $25 on their first visit, and the same crew also covers Oakville.
