What does lawn care in Georgetown and Acton include?

A Georgetown or Acton lawn on our route gets cut weekly from May to October, from $150 a month for a residential lot, and the trimmer and edger come out on every visit, with clippings looked after. Cleanups, aeration and overseeding, sod, hedges, garden beds and interlock are quoted after we see the property.

Both towns sit about 20 km from our Milton base, roughly 20 to 25 minutes, with Regional Road 25 running straight up to Acton. That keeps Halton Hills on regular weekly routes rather than an occasional trip. Georgetown's newer subdivisions look a lot like Milton's: clay lots, builder sod and tight side yards, where weekly lawn mowing is as much trimming and edging as cutting.

How is a rural or estate lot in Halton Hills different?

Rural and estate lots in Halton Hills are bigger, rougher and further from municipal services. Halton Region's curbside yard waste pickup only serves urban areas, so rural cleanups need a disposal plan, and properties with woodland over 0.5 hectares fall under the Region's Tree By-law. We quote these lots individually.

On a country property outside Georgetown or Acton, the lawn is only part of the visit: long gravel driveways, roadside ditches, fence lines and septic beds all need care, and the grass often runs into meadow or bush. Send a few photos and the address, and we will price the real mowing area, not the lot size on paper.

The Halton Tree By-law applies to properties containing all or part of a woodland over 0.5 hectares (1.1 acres), or land inside the Regional Natural Heritage System. You can cut up to 24 cubic metres of wood a year for your own use under good forestry practices; beyond that you need a permit. Clearing brush along a woodlot edge is worth checking first.

Why do Halton Hills lawns wake up later in spring?

Northern Halton Hills sits further from Lake Ontario, much of it above the escarpment, so the growing season is shorter. The federal soil survey of Halton County gives the northern uplands about 140 frost-free days, against about 155 along the lake. First cuts and seeding windows shift accordingly.

The same survey describes the land between Milton and Georgetown rising into a large, well-drained dome, with the Niagara Escarpment running up to Glen Williams and the Credit River entering the county there. Well-drained soil is good for roots but dries out faster in a dry July, so mowing height matters, and fall aeration and overseeding gives thin lawns time to root before the earlier frost.

Snow removal in Halton Hills

The Town of Halton Hills plows arterial and collector roads first and residential and rural roads after, aiming to finish within 24 hours of a storm. It clears only designated sidewalks, about 160 km. Our seasonal contracts cover your driveway, walkway and steps from 5 cm, with salt included.

Residential and rural roads are not salted to bare pavement, so expect snowpack on side streets, and overnight street parking is banned from November 15 to April 15 between 2 and 6 a.m. The Town's sidewalk list covers routes with over 1,000 vehicles a day and sidewalks next to schools, which leaves many Georgetown and Acton homeowners clearing their own.

The season runs November 1 to April 30 on six monthly payments, with a plow truck for long driveways and a shovel crew for walks and steps, working 24/7 through a storm. Halton Hills runs from the same base as our Milton snow removal routes, and the residential snow removal page explains how seasonal pricing works.

Landscaping in Georgetown, Glen Williams and Norval

Landscaping in Halton Hills ranges from new-build yards in Georgetown that need beds, sod and an interlock walkway, to older properties in Glen Williams and Norval along the Credit River valley with mature trees and slopes. Every project is quoted for free after we see photos or the site.

Slopes and valley lots need extra thought about drainage: beds that do not wash out, sod pinned on grades, and interlock patios and walkways built on a proper base. For a fresh lawn on a new build, see sod installation, and for thin spring lawns, our guide to the best grass seed for Ontario lawns is a good start.

Halton Hills: common questions

Do you cut grass in Acton and rural Halton Hills?

Yes. Acton is about 20 km from our Milton base along Regional Road 25, and we also cover Georgetown, Glen Williams, Norval, Limehouse, Terra Cotta and rural Halton Hills. A regular residential lot is from $150 a month for weekly grass cutting; larger rural and estate properties are quoted from photos and the address.

Does Halton Region pick up yard waste on rural Halton Hills properties?

No. Halton's curbside yard waste collection is for urban areas only, such as Georgetown and Acton, every other week from early April to mid-December. On rural properties, leaves and brush need composting on site or a disposal plan built into the cleanup quote.

Is snow removal available in Georgetown and Halton Hills?

Yes. Seasonal snow contracts cover Georgetown, Acton and rural Halton Hills for the whole November 1 to April 30 season, split into six monthly payments. Once 5 cm is down, the crew clears the driveway, walkway and front steps, salts, and stacks snow on your property. Price is set by the driveway's size and layout.

Do I need a permit to cut trees on my Halton Hills property?

If your property includes woodland over 0.5 hectares (1.1 acres) or sits in the Regional Natural Heritage System, Halton Region's Tree By-law applies. You can harvest up to 24 cubic metres of wood a year for your own use under good forestry practices; more than that needs a permit. Call 311 to check.
