Snow removal cost in Milton and Mississauga for 2026-27: typical market prices, what pushes a quote up or down, and how a seasonal contract compares with paying per push, using Environment Canada snowfall data.

How much does snow removal cost in Milton and Mississauga?

Snow removal cost in Milton and Mississauga typically runs $40 to $150 per visit for a residential driveway and sidewalk, or $300 to $1,800+ for a full-winter seasonal contract, according to HomeStars' local cost pages. Those are market ranges, not our prices, and HomeStars does not say whether they include HST. Your quote depends on driveway size, layout and contract terms.

A short single driveway in Dempsey and a long double driveway with a walkway and front steps in Meadowvale are different jobs, which is why published ranges are wide. The table pulls together what HomeStars, a Canadian contractor marketplace, lists for Milton, Mississauga and Canada overall.

Treat these as market ranges, not a price list: use them to spot a quote far outside the norm, then compare the scope line by line.

What drives the price of snow removal?

Five things set most snow removal quotes: the size and shape of the driveway, how much hand shovelling there is (walkways, steps, sidewalk), whether salt is included, the trigger depth that sends the crew out, and how you pay. The neighbourhood matters far less than the driveway itself.

  • Driveway length and width. A one-car townhouse driveway is a few minutes of plowing; a three-car wide driveway, or a long narrow one with a turn, takes longer and needs room to pile the snow.
  • Walkways and front steps. A plow truck cannot do steps. Every metre of walkway and every step is shovel work, so a long front walk adds real time.
  • The public sidewalk. Milton expects you to clear the sidewalk beside your property; Mississauga now plows all of its sidewalks. That changes what you need to buy.
  • Salt. Some quotes include it on every visit, some charge per application. Ask which, and ask what goes down if you have interlock (our rock salt damage guide explains why it matters).
  • Trigger depth. A 2.5 cm trigger means more visits than a 5 cm or 7.5 cm trigger, and the price should reflect that.
  • Obstacles and storage. Parked cars, basketball nets, tight side yards and nowhere to put the snow all add time on site.
  • Payment terms and HST. Monthly instalments, one lump sum or pay-per-push all change the total you see, and Ontario HST is 13%.

Is a seasonal contract cheaper than paying per push?

A seasonal contract is usually cheaper in an average or heavy winter and more predictable in every winter, because you pay one fixed amount however often it snows. Paying per push can cost less in a light winter, but you carry the risk of a snowy January yourself.

Environment Canada's 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Toronto Pearson, the airport station in Mississauga, show 114.5 cm of snowfall a year, about 45 days with measurable snow, 7.2 days with 5 cm or more falling in a single day, and 2.2 days with 10 cm or more. Storms that run across midnight, drifting and slush that refreezes add trips the daily totals do not show.

Run the market numbers through that and the per-push total moves a lot. The table multiplies the HomeStars per-visit range by the number of visits. We go deeper on the trade-offs in seasonal contract vs per-visit plowing.

Visits in a winterAt $40 a visitAt $150 a visit
6 (light winter)$240$900
10$400$1,500
15$600$2,250
20 (heavy winter)$800$3,000

What does a 5 cm trigger mean for your bill?

The trigger is the snow depth that sends the crew out. With a 5 cm (2 in) trigger, a light dusting is not a visit, but anything that makes the driveway hard to drive or shovel is. A lower trigger means more visits and a higher price; a higher one means more shovelling for you.

Our residential contracts use a 5 cm trigger. That lines up with when Mississauga starts plowing its own roads and sidewalks, and when the Town of Milton starts on its priority sidewalks. Below that depth, salt usually does more good than a plow blade, and salt is included in our contracts.

Ask every company two follow-up questions: is a re-clear included when the city plow leaves a windrow across the end of your driveway, and what happens in a 30 cm storm. Mississauga now opens a gap at least 3 metres wide in residential windrows after its final pass, not cleared to bare pavement and not salted. Milton leaves windrows to homeowners, apart from a Town program for seniors and residents with disabilities.

Do you need to pay for sidewalk clearing in Milton or Mississauga?

In Milton, the sidewalk beside your home is your job: the Town expects residents to clear it within 24 hours after a snow or ice storm ends, under By-law 106-2019. In Mississauga, the City now treats all sidewalks as part of its snow clearing, so most homeowners there do not need it in a contract.

Milton does plow sidewalks on school, transit and major pedestrian routes once 5 cm has fallen, but the by-law still puts the sidewalk beside your home on you. The same by-law bans putting snow on the road or sidewalk, which is why a good crew piles snow on your property instead. For Oakville and the full set of rules side by side, read who clears the sidewalk in Milton, Mississauga and Oakville.

Is HST included in snow removal prices?

Not always, so ask before you compare. Ontario's HST is 13%, which turns a $900 seasonal price into $1,017 and a $60 push into $67.80. Two quotes that look $100 apart can be the same price once you know which one already includes tax.

Payment terms matter as much as the tax line. Some contractors want the whole season up front in October. Ours is split into 6 monthly payments, November 1 through April 1, and most of our clients pay by Interac e-Transfer.

Managing a plaza, condo or townhouse complex instead? Commercial snow removal is priced per site after a free site visit, and our commercial snow removal checklist covers what to put in writing. Whoever you hire, use this list to line up two quotes fairly:

  1. Same trigger depth (5 cm versus 2.5 cm changes the visit count)
  2. Same scope: driveway, walkways, steps, sidewalk
  3. Salt included, or charged per application
  4. Windrow re-clears after the city plow
  5. Where the snow gets piled
  6. Season dates and payment schedule
  7. Before or after 13% HST

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is snow removal in Mississauga per visit?

HomeStars lists $40 to $150 per visit for residential driveway and sidewalk snow removal in Mississauga, depending on driveway size and how much snow fell. Expect the low end for a short single driveway after a light snow and the high end for a large driveway after a heavy storm. HomeStars does not say whether 13% HST is included, so check each quote.

Is a seasonal snow removal contract worth it in Milton?

For most driveways, yes. Toronto Pearson averages 114.5 cm of snow a year, and a seasonal contract fixes your cost whether the winter brings 6 storms or 20. You also get a set trigger depth and a place on the route, instead of calling around for help the morning after a big storm.

Why doesn't Lawn By Moe list snow removal prices online?

Because two driveways on the same street can be very different jobs. Length, width, walkways, steps and where the snow can go all change the time on site. We quote each property for free, usually the same day, from your address and a photo sent on WhatsApp to 437-433-1994.

Is salt included in the price of snow removal?

In our residential seasonal contracts, yes, salt is included with every season. Some companies charge per application, so check each quote. If you have new concrete or interlock, mention it when you ask for a quote so the crew knows before the first storm.

When should I sign up for seasonal snow removal?

Before the season starts. Our contracts run November 1 to April 30, so October is the time to get your driveway quoted and signed. The first of six monthly payments is due November 1, and the crew comes out once snow on the ground reaches 5 cm (2 in).

Does the City of Mississauga clear the end of my driveway?

Since the 2025/2026 season, Mississauga clears part of the windrow at the end of single, double and shared residential driveways after its final plow pass, leaving an opening at least 3 metres wide. It is not cleared to bare pavement or salted, and condos, commercial properties and private roads are not included.
